Praying Gods Will – It’s Not A Secret

share

Gods will.
Some people treat it like a secret mystery that can’t be known.

Do you pray, “If it’s your will, oh God” prayers?

If so, stop.
Seriously. STAAAAHHHHP.

Gods Will. You Should Know It.

I remember when I was pregnant with my oldest daughter and the doctor told me my iron was dangerously low. I was in danger of losing her.
I needed prayer. I needed to be surrounded by people who knew the Word and knew how to agree with the Word.; people of faith who would declare Gods promises and change the very DNA of my situation.

I went to my Bible study group at church and asked them if they would pray for me. The guy who prayed was one of the teachers. He said a lot of good things….and then he didn’t.
It was like the sound of a scratch across a record when he ended with, “and let this baby live if it be your will, oh God.
WHAAAAAT?

We had all been standing in a circle holding hands and I immediately broke connection with the people I was holding hands with. I looked at the guy and said, “What? No. That’s not what I meant when I asked you to pray. I KNOW Gods will. The Bible says, ‘with long life will I satisfy you‘ (Psalm 91:16).
It also says, ‘the thief comes for nothing but to steal, kill, and destroy: I come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly..” (John 10:10)

I was mad. I was so mad at the person who was praying for me because I thought to myself, “What a cop-out. So, you’re going to pray ‘if it be Your will’ so that just in case things don’t work out you can say, ‘Well, I guess it was Gods will for my baby to die?’

Nope. You’re not praying for me. I don’t receive your prayers. BYE.

I stormed out of that room crying. Ugh. I was so hoppin mad.
(I used to have a temper. Hard to believe, right?)
Today I realize he just didn’t know better. I shouldn’t have been mad at him personally, but at the time I sure was.

I was a baby Christian. I was living on the verge of poverty, I had addiction going on in my family, and all I wanted to be was a mom and have a normal life and healthy children…”and I can’t even get someone to agree with me in prayer without screwing it up? Why is everything an uphill battle for me?”
Those were my thoughts back then.

Talking to God

I remember going home and having a long conversation with God. “It IS your will for my baby to be healthy and whole. And I will pray that over myself, even if I’m the only one who has the guts to do it. I will find the Scriptures that pertain to me and I will hold You to them, God. These are YOUR promises, not mine. If YOU say it, I’m going to hold onto it with all I’ve got.”
Ballsy, right? Who talks to God like that? I guess I did.

And you know what? I’m not sorry, because I have three healthy children and a grandchild who had his first fever at almost 2 years old. I’m never sick. My family doesn’t get the flu every year or every bug that comes along. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had a sore throat or a cold.

I’m 50+ years old and there’s not a bone in my body that hurts and I don’t have joint pain or back pain or any other kind of pain….Why? Because God said He sent Jesus to pay the price for my healing…and I believe it.

I don’t think that’s so daring and crazy. It’s simple. But simple is often pretty hard for people.
So, why am I saying all this and going off on a tangent about how people pray?
Because I want you to do better than to just believe in God and in Jesus and be “saved from hell.”
I want you to know there are promises in the Bible that you can find and claim and believe for yourself.
They are God’s covenant promises TO YOU, and regardless if no one else is experiencing the blessings YOU CAN.
The are Gods will for you!

Finding The Promises

I found promises in the Word for prosperity, and I am prosperous every day in every way, including financially.
I found promises in the Word for healing, and I am healthy, like scary healthy. SO healthy I pop out of bed in the morning like I’m attached to a spring.
I found promises in the Word that tell me I don’t have to accept anxiety, and a few years ago I was delivered from it. Anxiety used to hold me captive. It used to paralyze me, but not anymore, because I discovered and really decided to BELIEVE that I had a right to live without it.
I found promises in the Bible that say I can have wisdom, peace and favor with everyone in every situation, and I’m walking in it. This isn’t because of me.

YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO THESE THINGS TOO!

And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others. – 2 Corinthians 9:8

It’s part of your inheritance (Gods will) but you have to dig in to the Word to understand what is yours. You have to know what you have a right to as a believer or you’ll just keep praying those lazy “if it be your will” kind of prayers.
His will is KNOWN!
It’s NOT a secret!
If we have lack in any area of our lives, it’s NOT God who is allowing it; it’s US.
He has provided all the blessings and poured them out through Jesus.
It’s our job to appropriate these blessings in our lives.
The devil will steal from you if you let him. I know. He stole a bunch of years from my life when I was in addiction. I kept asking God to deliver me, and then I discovered, He ALREADY DID (through Jesus). I just had to start living in the authority I already had. That was a decision on MY PART.
(Disclaimer: It is ok to pray and ask God to show you His will as far as what job to take or if a person is the right partner for you, etc. But there are so many topics where we KNOW Gods will.
Gods will is life, health, prosperity, clarity, abundance, wisdom, peace —these things are ours.)

Gods will is in the Word, so DIG IN and discover what Jesus paid for.
Once you are equipped with the knowledge of what is rightfully yours, pray with confidence and watch as your agreement with the promises change the very atmosphere of your life.

That’s Good News!
